Understanding the Scope

While our assessment provides thorough clinical evaluation and documentation, it's important to understand its intended purpose and limitations.

  • Clinical Focus: Our assessment is designed to provide a clear clinical evaluation of your symptoms and help you understand your experiences. We focus on guiding appropriate treatment and management while supporting your ongoing care journey.
  • Formal Diagnosis: Please be aware this assessment is not considered to be a formal medical diagnosis. Your experienced physiotherapist will assess your symptoms against the internationally recognised hEDS Diagnostic Criteria Checklist and will help you understand whether your symptoms meet this criteria. In Australia, APHRA regulations restrict physiotherapists from formally diagnosing Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
  • Administrative and Legal Considerations: Our assessment can serve as supporting evidence for insurance claims, NDIS applications, or other formal purposes. However, you may need additional evaluation from a medical specialist, such as a Rheumatologist. It's important to note that some organisations specifically require assessment by particular specialists. We can help guide you towards appropriate specialists if needed.
  • Making Informed Decisions: When requiring documentation for specific administrative or legal purposes, we recommend checking requirements with relevant organisations before booking your appointment. We encourage discussing your specific needs during our initial contact to ensure we can meet your requirements. It's important to understand which specialists you may need to see and to consider our assessment as part of a broader diagnostic journey.
