Our pain specialists offer comprehensive care for complex headache disorders, migraines, and TMD. Using advanced diagnostic techniques, they identify underlying causes and develop tailored treatment plans. These may include innovative pain management strategies, targeted interventions, and interdisciplinary approaches to provide relief and improve quality of life for patients with persistent or severe head and facial pain.
Our orofacial pain practitioner, Raelene Clark, specialises in diagnosing and treating TMD and related facial pain conditions. Using a blend of manual therapies, exercises, and targeted interventions, she addresses jaw dysfunction, muscle tension, and associated headaches. Her comprehensive approach aims to restore proper jaw function, alleviate pain, and improve overall orofacial health.
Our team provides expert medication management for headaches, migraines, and TMD. We work closely with patients to find the most effective pharmacological treatments, which may include preventive medications, acute pain relievers, and drugs to address specific symptoms. Our approach emphasises minimising side effects while maximising pain relief and function.
Occipital nerve blocks are a targeted treatment option for various types of headaches, particularly those originating from the back of the head and neck. Our specialists perform this minimally invasive procedure by injecting a combination of local anaesthetic and anti-inflammatory medication around the greater and lesser occipital nerves. This can provide rapid relief from pain and inflammation, often resulting in significant reduction of headache symptoms.
The procedure is particularly effective for occipital neuralgia, certain types of migraines, and cervicogenic headaches. Many patients experience immediate relief that can last for weeks to months, and repeated treatments can lead to longer-term benefits.
Our dietitians play a valuable role in managing headaches and migraines, for those whom dietary factors trigger flare-ups. They work with patients to identify potential food triggers, develop anti-inflammatory eating plans, and ensure proper hydration and nutrient intake. This nutritional approach can help reduce the frequency and severity of headaches for many individuals.
We offer various manual therapy techniques and pressure point release treatments to address muscle tension and joint dysfunction associated with headaches, migraines, and TMD. These hands-on approaches can help alleviate pain, improve circulation, and promote relaxation, often providing immediate relief and contributing to long-term management of symptoms.
While we don't have an in-house dentist, we recognise the crucial role dental care plays in managing TMD and certain types of headaches. We have established strong connections with experienced dental practitioners who specialise in these areas.
We can refer patients to these trusted professionals for specialised treatments such as custom-fitted dental splints, which can significantly alleviate TMD symptoms and related headaches. These dentists also offer Botox treatments for TMD and bruxism, providing an additional option for muscle relaxation and pain relief. For cases requiring more advanced intervention, we can connect patients with oral surgeons experienced in TMJ disorders.
